Happiness starts here is an excellent introduction for children, and even adults into the world of cognitive behavioral psychology. Written by Dr. Robert Isett, who I’ve personally worked with, the book explores how and why people feel emotions, why we react to things, and how to become masters of what we feel.Not only is this book a good read, but it should be required for every child to learn the skills early in their lives. In a world dominated by competition and stress, more and more people are succumbing to things such as depression and anxiety, and with the tools in this book, children can learn to combat these emotions EARLY in their life and begin to build a foundation to truly understanding emotions and become masters of their own brains.
Dr. Isett has also written an excellent book titled “Think Right Feel Right” which is an adult centered and more detailed look into cognitive behavioral psychology. He has incorporated many of his fundamental ideas from this book into “Happiness starts here” which is a good read for both adults looking for a condensed understanding of his main ideas, and children looking to begin learning about becoming masters of their emotions and staying happy throughout their lives.
Overall, I highly recommend this book for all children, and even adults. These are skills that everyone should begin to develop at a young age, so that by the time they need them in the world, they are ready and prepared to take control of their own happiness and well being.
