Veterinarian Matty Connors’ visions lead her to homicide detective Brian Sullivan once again despite her resolve to remain anonymous the past four years. Her official work with the police in California resulted in the brutal murder of her fiancé, and since, a recurrent nightmare she barely survives. Brian, the reputed ladies man of the Sullivan family, has yet to give his heart to a woman until Matty lays claim to it. His black-and-white approach to solving crimes doesn’t jibe with Matty’s spooky pronouncements or her reputation for alleged infallibility. A wild goose chase searching for a murder weapon casts doubt on Matty’s “truths” and threatens their smoldering romance. Is Brian her nightmare slayer and ultimate truth? When the puzzle pieces fall in place for Brian, will it be too late to save Matty?

STORY BRIEF:
Matty is a psychic who helped solve crimes for the police. Because of this, someone close to her was murdered. Therefore, she quit helping the police and moved to Illinois. She now has visions concerning a missing man and is compelled to give the information to Brian, a local detective. She reluctantly agrees to continue helping him with the case as long as her name is kept secret (i.e. so no killer knows she is helping the police). He agrees. They are attracted to each other as they work together.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
This author is the writing team of sisters, Pat Casiello and Kathie Clare. I was hesitant because I have never yet been pleased with books co written by two or more people. I was hoping to like it but was somewhat disappointed. I have read a handful of books that were co written. They've all been 1 or 2 stars. This is the best one so far and its only 3 stars.

This story has the basic ingredients for a romance novel, but I wasn't emotionally drawn in. I'm not sure what was missing. It was probably the characters. I was taken aback at how immediately they "fell in love" with each other. He's thinking babies and marriage way too soon. He dated many women before, but his immediate desire to marry Matty didn't feel right. I didn't see a relationship develop before they fell in love.

It's a short story, about half the size of a typical romance novel. In general, there was nothing special or different. It was just ok. I'd get it from the library. I wouldn't buy it.

I noticed another reviewer claims this book "is as cleverly entertaining as KISS THE GIRLS, and as thrilling as ALONG CAME A SPIDER, with Morgan Freeman." In my opinion, no. I saw the movie "Kiss The Girls" and found it full of intrigue and depth. This book had an interesting plot with a lot of questions answered, but the characters, events, and situations used to develop the plot were not exciting. Usually books have more depth than movies but in this case (for me) the movie did.

CAUTION SPOILER:
The authors blew it on one conflict. They wanted Brian to have a reason to not trust Matty, but they were inconsistent as follows. On page 84 Matty tells Brian that she knows a gun is in a boxcar but she says "I have no clue where this boxcar is located." Brian says "I do." He had seen a boxcar in someone's home. They went there, but found no gun. On page 129 Brian is thinking the following about why he does not trust Matty: "The boxcar incident hung between them. The evidence and her truths didn't line up. They had the gun, no thanks to Matty. She had been wrong about its location." Later in the story, he learns that the gun had been in a boxcar in another location that he hadn't known about. He was the one who claimed to know the location not her. Now he says she was wrong so he no longer trusts her? This annoyed me. If the authors wanted distrust, they should have come up with something better.

Capturing Karma edition by K M Daughters Romance eBooks Reviews

This book is captivating from beginning to end; I couldn't put it down until I finished it. There is a good blend of romance & suspense with unforgettable characters you can't help but fall in love with. Matty Connors literally “runs into “ homicide police detective Brian Sullivan while he is on his way to his brother’s wedding and their lives become intertwined. I loved the build up of the relationship between Matty and Brian, even with the doubts Brian had of Matty’s abilities. The suspense was tense and we didn’t find out near the end who the murderer was. It was fun having the Sullivan family involved in the storyline as well and getting to know them better. Ted Brooks once again brings all the characters to life and makes listening an enjoyable experience. I enjoyed this book tremendously and would give it more than five stars if I could. I did receive this audiobook for free and am providing an unbiased review.
Matty meets Brian with a bang…literally…when she runs her car into his. Their romance heats up as fast as the suspense rises in the mystery. The hair on the back of my neck stood on end knowing that she was in danger when Brian hesitates to follow up with Mattie when she tells him that Jake…but I’m getting ahead of myself.

The frame of the mystery really begins and ends in the hospital where Mollie works. These scenes allow us to see the other Sullivans and their interactions. The interplay among these family members sets us up for the intensity of the relationship between Brian and Matty but also provides us with the counterpoint of humor. The Sullivans are all larger than life, and Brian is no exception.

Though they are clearly drawn to one another, Brian’s seeming inability to keep confidentiality about Matty’s identity is the main source of tension between them. At the height of their conflict, Brian yells at Matty to be quiet and tells Mattie to leave. He literally dismisses her from the case! Yikes! I have to say that, at this point, I’d never speak to him again even though he’s gorgeous. The only thing that redeems him is his doubt and that doubt causes him to request to speak to Ben alone and that leads to…but again I’m getting ahead of myself. Suffice it to say that the pacing is excellent, and I was on the edge of my seat. I was listening to the novel on audio in my car. I suspect others driving by me thought I was losing my mind at one point when I pounded the steering wheel and yelled NO!

I loved it! Can you tell?
Not only do you get the story of Brian Sullivan but you get to learn more about Matty. One of my favorite characters. Does not matter if you believe in "visions or truths" by the end of the book you will be cheering on Matty! You only hope the nonbelievers believe before it is too late!
